A Surprise Vow Renewal: A Celebration of Love, Family & Friends

In the lead-up to Mum and Shane’s wedding anniversary and Christmas, Amee, Colleen, and I wanted to do something truly special for Shane. We came up with the idea of a vow renewal as a Christmas present for him, an opportunity to celebrate their incredible journey together. It was also a complete surprise for Mum. With just 1.5 weeks to pull it all together, we weren’t sure if we could make it happen, but thanks to the love and support of so many wonderful people, it came together beautifully.

Despite the short notice and the busy holiday season, family and friends gathered to witness this heartfelt occasion. While some couldn’t be there in person, their well wishes meant the world to us. The day was filled with laughter, tears, and so much love, a true testament to the life Shane and Mum have built together.

One of the most memorable aspects of the day was having Dean Phelps capture every special moment through his photography. He generously donated his time and talent, and in less than 24 hours, we had the most stunning images to treasure forever.

A Love Story That Stands the Test of Time

Shane and Mum’s love story began in the mid-90s, sparked by a slice of Black Forest Cake and a bit of matchmaking magic. A mutual friend (Jo Kasch) introduced them at Rosemary Fiske’s 50th birthday party, and from that moment, their journey together began.

Shane moved in with Mum and her two teenage daughters, Amee and me, taking on the challenge of navigating life with two strong-willed teenagers. Through patience, kindness, and humour, he not only won Mum’s heart but also proved his love and commitment to our family.

His proposal took place beside the lake in Marysville, and on the 19th of December 1998, they exchanged vows at St Fillan in Narbethong. Since then, they have built a life together filled with shared passions, unwavering support, and countless cherished moments.

From running Murrindindi Transport to supporting Mum’s creative ventures like Redgate Quilting and Socks, they have always been a team. Shane’s 17-year career as a Cleanaway Garbage truck driver was one he loved, and his legendary collection of power drills, DIY skills, and love for animals have been constants in their life together. Mum’s creativity, warmth, and dedication to family have been the heart of their home.

Over the years, their family has grown in the most beautiful ways. When I married Chris, Shane and Mum gained a son-in-law. But family, to them, is more than just blood. The Cadmans became an extension of our family, with Shane and Colleen forming a deep bond, and five wonderful grandchildren, Jay, Saxon, Ryer, Finn, and Grace, bringing even more joy to their lives. More recently, Amee and Nathan H welcomed baby Harper, adding another special chapter to their story.

A Celebration of Love and Commitment

As we stood together, witnessing Mum and Shane reaffirm their vows, it was clear that their love is as strong today as it was 25 years ago. Their journey together is a testament to the power of patience, kindness, and the enduring bonds of family.

To everyone who helped make this day possible, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. It was a day filled with love, laughter, and memories we will treasure forever.
