What work is actually required

I will update this post as we plan this out, but essentially the critical thing is the bathroom. My parents house has 2 bathrooms, but BOTH of them have a shower over the bath and they are just not set up for what Shane needs. The main ensuite, which is the bigger bathroom will require complete gutting and need to be turned into a “wet room”.

This entail a fair amount of tiling, plumbing, plastering, painting, new cabinetry, hand rails, taps etc. amongst other things. I also believe there is possible 2 door ways that may need to be widened (one to the bathroom and 1 to the bedroom).

Our aim is to gather up details over the coming weeks of those that may be able to help. We have the OT going to do the formal assessment for the bathroom in the coming weeks, so we will have a definite list then. We hope to raise enough money to help to cover the cost of some of this as well as seek help from trades who may be able to donate some skills to help and perhaps pull off a renovation rescue in the community!

·  Demolition of Existing Bathroom:

  • Removal of existing fixtures (bathtub, sink, toilet, etc.)
  • Removal of tiles and flooring
  • Disposal of debris

·  Plumbing:

  • Installation of new pipes and fixtures
  • Relocation of existing plumbing as needed

·  Electrical Work:

  • Installation of new lighting
  • Installation of electrical outlets
  • Relocation of existing electrical wiring as needed

·  Carpentry:

  • Widening of doorways
  • Installation of support bars and railings
  • Framing for walls and fixtures

·  Tiling:

  • Installation of new tiles for floors and walls
  • Waterproofing

·  Painting:

  • Painting of new walls and ceilings

·  Fixture Installation:

  • Installation of a walk-in shower
  • Installation of a new toilet and sink
  • Installation of accessibility features (grab bars, non-slip flooring, etc.)

·  Final Touches:

  • Sealing and finishing work
  • Cleanup and disposal of any remaining debris

If we raise more $ than is required we will be donating the money to MND Vic to help support others that are in Shane’s situation. Note that the estimate is what was provided from My Aged Care Vic, but if this is privately funded then the cost should be alot less (we hope)
